The light! The unique thing about the northern part of Jutland – from its heartland to its headland – is the light. Here, on the same day, you can enjoy the rays of the rising sun out over the Kattegat and, without exerting yourself, be present on the west coast in the evening for the fabulously gorgeous light and romantic ambience when the sun sets picturesquely out on the horizon. In addition to this uniquely distinctive feature, Jutland – from its heartland to its headland – has grand landscapes, pretty towns and villages, fascinating attractions, and a wealth of cultural sights.

Cultural centre
From the centre up Jutland holds a wide range of cultural experiences. It is an area which has inspired many artists, including the increasingly well-known group of painters, which included Michael Ancher and P S Krøyer, who worked in Skagen around 1900. What the painters in Skagen found so fascinating about the area was, in particular, its wonderful nature and the light. This – and the perfect conditions of peace and quiet, freedom, fresh air, and open, creativity-enhancing space – has been an important factor in the choice which has lead Denmark’s finest contemporary artists and artist-craftsmen to settle in this region. There are, therefore, particularly fine opportunities for visiting private galleries and workshops in the heart and in the north of Jutland during the holiday seasons, when you can purchase ceramics, glass art, candles, amber, paintings and watercolours, antiques, textiles, knitwear, and gold and silver jewellery.

’Skagens Museum’, ’Michael and Annas Anchers Hus’, and ’Drachmanns Hus’ are certainly well worth a visit, as there are many other art museums and centres in the region, such as the ’Vendsyssel Kunstmuseum’ art museum in the town of Hjørring, or the Skive Art Museum, both of which have some fascinating stories to tell.
