No other region in Denmark has
experienced being thrown backwards and forwards by kings and
world powers in anything like the same degree as the southeast
and southern part of Jutland. That is what makes the southeast
and south of Jutland so special, because this region holds an
important part of Danish history. It was in Jelling that Denmark’s
"birth certificate" was signed by Harold Bluetooth,
and it is South East Jutland and South Jutland which has seen
the fights for king and country during the major wars.
Where past and present meet
Take a trip back in time in the warm and cosy ambience you will
experience in the many provincial towns in the region, or take
a nap in a deck chair on one of the wonderful sandy beaches
near Sønderborg. For children and playful souls of all
ages South East Jutland and South Jutland is a paradise with
numerous amusement parks, attractions and activity parks.
As well as its fascinating historical monuments, the area has
a remarkable concentration of arts and craft from this and the
previous century. There is a spectrum of pictorial art, sculptures,
handicrafts, textiles and furniture art. In addition to this
there is a veritable undergrowth of small handicraft workshops
and private galleries in and around the major towns. If you
are interested in Scandinavian art from the 20th and 21st centuries,
the ‘Sønderjyllands Kunstmuseum’ art museum
is the perfect place to go. Other museums worthy of a visit
in the region are the Vejle Museum of Art, the ‘Museet
på Koldinghus’, and the ‘Trapholt’ museum
in Kolding to name but a few.
